Literal are the young.
Expressions they do not get.
Hyperbole, similes, metaphor
Are lost in preschool land.
Misunderstandings do occur
If this should be forgotten.
All this we were reminded
When middle son his pants did drop
After Daddy remarked
to our skinny boy
“You have no butt at all.”
Turning around,
His naked tush
Our son did flash.
“See? I do have a butt!”
As Daddy was proven wrong.
Mommy hid her smile
As the thought occurred
A blog post she now has!
Linking up with Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop and the prompt: Write a poem about a time someone made you smile. Okay, so I’m not a poet, but this definitely made me smile! And laugh until I almost cried.
Pssst, did you get a chance to check out any of the Pour Your Heart Out links yesterday? Some great stories there!
I so enjoy how literal the young kids can be. I even enjoyed it a little bit longer than normal with my oldest. His AS has made it difficult for him to learn "Hyperbole, similes, metaphor".
I fight back the smiles often.
TOO cute… those moments are getting few and far between in my house and I miss them!
Okay your comments are back for me. The weirdest thing ever.
How absolutely adorable! And the best part of this is, when he's eighteen and he brings his girlfriend around, you can share this with her!
Ahhh, the power of the blog.
That's cute π
Ha Ha. Love it. Ever since I started blogging back in the Spring, I'm constantly smiling to myself because I know my boys have just given me something to blog about. I only wish I had started when they were younger!
heehee
My boys would do that too. B thought it was hysterical yesterday when I told Z he had a boney butt
Very cute!
It's so true how literal kids are! You really have to be careful sometimes what you say to them!
Oh..sarcasm… also missed by kids!
I bet it's a really cute butt too. Well done, Shell. Move over Maya Angelou.
Lots of yummy love,

Cute poem. Of course I would have smiled. He's so cute.
How funny! And now we can all laugh too…the beauty of blogging. π
Kids can be so literal. I guess he showed Daddy he was Wrong. Kids love that!
So cute! It reminds me of how my youngest will not accept an actual "name" for anything yet. The neighbor's cat isn't Fluffy, it's "no Mommy, that's a kitty cat!"
or if I call her GoofBall she will say "no Mommy, I'm A'mia!!(Amelia)"
HAHAHAH I would have busted a gut laughing. Got to love kids and their ability to take everything literally
haha! that's great.
That's a good one!
I love it when they are so literal.
That was cute and if I don't see my son's bare toosh for the rest of my life it will be too soon! LOL I've seen enough little boy butt cheeks to last a life time. giggle
~Mimi
That's too cute! I'll send my boy down to teach him the butt wiggle dance!
Oh how sweet! It is amazing how specific and literal their minds work- love moments like that!
"As the thought occurredA blog post she now has!"i think like this ALL the time
This was an adorable poem and certainly made me smile. π
LOL! so cute!
That is too funny!!!
I love this and I love that pic =)
That made me giggle too.
I would have smiled. What a cutie.
Yesterday my husband did the "hey you have something on your shirt" bit on my daughter. When she looked down at his pointing finger he booped her in the nose.
It took four times before she got that it was a joke.
Sometimes the cute turns a bit painful!
Love it! This made me smile!
xoxo
Ha! My hubby sometimes takes off his pants to lay on the couch in his shirt and underwear. Last night when he did my daughter SQUEELED – Yippee, no pants time!
Kids are goofy.
I love it.
He is a doll!
Love kids!!! They make the world so much more fun π
Great job with the poem, Shell!
Naked kid butts are always blog-worthy!
hehehehehe Love it. π
That was great. It made me smile too!
Love it! With kids, it's really hard to run out of blogging material!
Ah yes, so very literal thinking aren't they?!
Great story!
Cute! I married into a family who has a long line of no butts, my little boy included!
I LOVE it! sounds like something my daughter would do too, lol!
I applaud you for having the courage to write a poem, I chickened out and wrote the coffee list. But I have to say that my son is almost three and I love this age. Everything is so literal and he has a bazillion questions about everything but there is such a sweet innocence that gets lost when we get older.
that is hilarious! and he is adorable.
Very cute! Love it!
Aw, now that's a cute lil butt poem!
What a wonderful poem it is, and funny! I can see the whole scene in front of my eyes..Thanks Shell for your recent comment!
Ohhhh….that's cheeky. π
HAHA.
Too cute! Too funny! Definitely made me smile. π
Love it! And yes it is so funny when they take everything literally.
Love the poem! That boy is so stinkin cute!!
Aww! That is adorable!
That's hilarious! You've got a very smart kid there π
HA!! I don't know what we'd do without our kids for inspiration.
Hee Hee! Having girls this is not an occurrence at our house but that is totally my sense of humor. Too funny! π
I tend to take things too literally like a child. Never know what might come out of a child's mouth. What inspiration!
That was a very cute story and well done on putting it into poem form.
So cute! I can't wait to have these stories!
ADORABLE with a capital A!!
Gotta love kids!
Too funny! And wow…your son looks so much like my friend's little boy, it's crazy!!
