To Be Heard

It’s a terrible feeling, to feel like you’re not being heard.

I don’t mean when everyone everywhere isn’t listening to your ideas. Very few people have that sort of platform.

I don’t even mean having a wide audience.

I mean when the people you love, the people you think should be close to you, don’t seem to hear you.

When they ignore what you shout from the rooftops is important to you.

Or when there’s something you’re so passionate about, you shouldn’t even have to say another word because they should understand, but they don’t get it.

It’s different than when they disagree with you. We can’t all agree on everything.

But when your passion is ignored, tossed off to the side as if you couldn’t possibly have a valid, if contrary, viewpoint.

When a comment is made that dismisses what you truly believe and you stand up for yourself, only to be met with a blank stare as if the topic that you felt defines you was one never mentioned before.

It’s a lonely feeling.

Don’t accept it.

Be heard.

And hear others. Don’t be the one who makes someone you love feel like they aren’t heard.
