Easy Kids Crafts: Personalized Kids Cups

Note: Did you see? Rockin’ the Bump is back! Link up those baby bump pics starting June 24th!

Summer break is here. And so is the pressure to do something with the kids. No school, homework, or sports to fill their days. And while I’m a firm believer in kids having free time and finding ways to entertain themselves, sometimes a little mom-directed activity is in order.

Search Pinterest and you can get overwhelmed by Pinterest Pressure to do fancy projects. And there’s nothing wrong with those if that is your thing. But if you are an uncrafty mom like me, you want to find the easy kids crafts. So I thought it was a good time to bring back Crafts for the Uncrafty Mom. Simple kids crafts or activities that don’t require too much time or fancy supplies.

easy summer activities

The first easy summer craft is my attempt to NOT have to wash 8 million cups each day because my boys were getting a new cup each time they wanted water. So we made personalized kids cups and they know that they use their cup for water all day- setting it on the kitchen counter for the next time they want a drink.

Supplies:

  • Sharpie Markers (about $4 for an 8 pack of bright at Walmart)
  • Plastic cups(we found these in a 4 pack at Walmart for $1- way to go Walmart for the inexpensive made in the USA products!)
  • Old towel/newspapers to cover your work area (optional)

Note: you’ll have less worry about the permanent marker coming off if you buy the hard non-shiny plastic type of cups instead of the kind I bought. Though by gentle handwashing, ours are still alright now(a few days after we made them). If it does come off, oh look- the kids have something else to do!

Allow your Sharpie artists to decorate their cups to their hearts’ content.

Don’t forget to HIDE the Sharpies when you are done so you don’t end up with Sharpie-decorated walls or furniture… or kids!

love the angry birds haha and the idea, I usually just buy Styrofoam and write their names on the cups…your idea is way more eco friendly.

I was going through so many solo cups that I finally decided enough was enough.

Great idea and always fun for them to make their own of something as they are definitely more likely to use it and then can’t fight over it either as theirs is theirs

My daughter would love this idea! Might have to do sometime this week. My son I can see putting a line down it and saying done. But you never know he might surprise me 🙂

Cute, cute idea. Hmmm, I’m going to have to think of some ideas. Though crafts only last about 20 seconds at our house right now.

I love this, so easy to do and great way for kids to customize their own cups (and keep them from arguing which one is theirs!)

Yes- stopping the silly fights… and cutting down on the crazy amount of dishes was my motivation!
