DIY Candy Cane Bath Salts

If you’re looking for a last minute Christmas gift, an easy DIY gift, I’ve got you covered.

We made these Candy Cane Bath Salts after yoga class last night. If you want to eliminate the coloring in the bath salts, you could just call them Peppermint Detox Bath Salts instead, but they look so festive with the pink!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • epsom salts
  • baking soda
  • peppermint essential oil
  • red or pink food coloring
  • decorative container

No exact amounts here because it really depends on how many batches you’re making and what size containers you’re putting them in.

What you’ll do is to make two bowls of the epsom salts/baking soda mixture. In one, just put the epsom salt and the baking soda. In the other, mix the epsom salt, baking soda, essential oils, and food coloring. Add the food coloring slowly and mix, until you have the color you want. I think a light pink is pretty. For the essential oils, again it’s going to depend on how much of the bath salt mixture you’re making, but a little goes a long way, so add a few drops at a time until you have the desired fragrance. (Tip: I know there are tons of essential oil companies out there, but I just found a bunch in the holiday gifts section at Marshall’s. Check there- there’s great deals! And for the purpose of bath salts, what they have there will work just fine)

Layer the pink and white bath salts into your jar (or tube or whatever container you are using), patting down each layer before adding the other color. Tie a pretty ribbon around your jar and there you go: a pretty diy Christmas gift that didn’t take much time or money to make!

Note: you could do this with other fragrances instead. I want to make a blend of orange, lemon, and lavender, but the peppermint goes with the holiday season.
