Dark Rising

I’m happiest with a book in my hand.

But summer was a little rough on my reading schedule: between work and then getting out with my kids as much as I could, there wasn’t a whole lot of quiet time to read. I still read a few books, but now that it’s back to school, it’s also back to reading.

My boys have to read every night as part of their homework and so we have family reading time, where we all read, since I do want them to see that reading isn’t just something you do if you have to do for an assignment.

The first book I read this school year is Book 2 in the Archangel Prophecies by Monica McGurk, Dark Rising. I reviewed the first book, Dark Hope, last year and was excited to continue with the story of Hope and the Archangel Michael, whose love seems forbidden. Can’t love a pesky human if you’re an angel, you know.

Usually, the second book in a series is a bit of a letdown for me- being more of a bridge between the beginning and end of a story, providing information and setting up the action for the next book, but not having a whole lot happen.

But, that’s not the case with Dark Rising. This didn’t read like a bridge book, but was actually exciting.

I don’t want to give too much away because I know you’ll want to read it, too. But, I have to say that I didn’t see where this was going and once a big plot point was revealed, I sighed, thinking that we wouldn’t see that come to fruition until the end of book three, but instead, we saw all that action in book two.

So, instead of thinking I know exactly where the story is going in book three, I now have no idea and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I just wish we didn’t have to wait for book three… now I have to find something else to read during our after school reading time.

If you’re a fan of young adult lit, you’ll want to check out the Archangel Prophecies by Monica McGurk.

I received a review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
