It doesn’t take that long to get dressed, so seriously, how lazy am I?
In previous years, I made sure to throw on real clothes before I headed out to school drop off. It’s not like it takes all that long. Especially if I lay out my clothes the night before, just like I do for the kids.
But in previous years, I had to drop off my older two at the elementary school that’s a two minute drive from my house and then drive “all the way into town” to take my preschooler to school, a 10 minute drive that usually included errands on the way home, since I was then kid-free.
And I learned from experience that if I wore my pajamas, fate would conspire against me and I’d be walking around where people could see me in my pajamas.
So, I got into the habit of getting dressed and at least throwing my hair up in a spin pin bun if nothing else.
Plus, last spring, I got into the habit of working out as soon as I got home from school drop off, so I threw on my workout clothes first thing in the morning and either went to a class or did a workout as soon as I got home.
But this year…
All three of my boys go to the school that’s a mere two minute drive from our house. ย I don’t run any errands on my way home because I don’t have to go “all the way into town” and since school starts earlier this year, many of the places I would need to go to aren’t open yet anyway.
So, from the time I walk out the door with the three boys until the time that I walk back in the door to a quiet house might take a total of five minutes.
And once I’m back home, I get ready for the day. I do the things I didn’t have time for prior to drop off, like wash my face and change my clothes(teethbrushing and deodorant are done prior to leaving the house, though).
I don’t wear sexy pajamas or anything that’s really all that different from my regular clothes anyway. If you didn’t know that I’d slept in them, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell I was in my pajamas(except for that whole no-bra thing… but I don’t get out of the van).
There was that morning when the assistant principal poked her head in the van to ask me a favor… but as far as she was concerned, I could have been headed to the gym after drop off. And really, all she cared about was that I said yes to her favor, not what I was wearing.
Maybe it’s a little different in the winter when pajamas look more like pajamas, what with the cute patterned flannel pants. Then again, maybe not.
On the days when I go in with my kids for something or to volunteer, I do get dressed. But there and back in less than five minutes? I’m not concerned and really no one is the wiser anyway.
My PJ’s look more like PJ’s but I’m always in comfy clothes for drop off, I usually try to pull myself together for pick up but sometimes I show back up in the same comfy clothes. Those 2 and 1/2 hours of school go by too fast to worry about what I wear for a 5 min pick up.
Oh, that is really fast. Since mine are in school all day, I feel like I better be in real clothes by the time it’s time for pick up. Though those clothes are usually pretty comfy, too.
Since we homeschool, I don’t have a drop off. But I will tell you that there are many days when I do most of the school day in my pajamas. Today will probably be one of them!
Oh, if I didn’t have to leave the house, I’d live in pajamas! Or at least yoga pants that double as pajamas.
I always try (TRY being the operative word) to get dressed before I drop my kids off at school. Only because once during drop-off someone backed into me and I had to get out of my van, braless and in my breakfast-encrusted PJs, and I was M-O-R-T-I-F-I-E-D. Ha!
Oh, no! I could so see that happening to me. I wonder if I could just refuse to get out of the car.
I always get dressed to do drop off and pick up. It might not be something that I really want to be seen in public in, especially for drop off. The only reason I really worry about it at all is the moment that I don’t I know that my car will break down and I will be stranded out it my pjs. I’m lazy, but I’m paranoid too.
I could see that happening to me. Hopefully it doesn’t, though!
I have this dress that I throw on when it is hot and a warm-up suit when it is cold. However, I can assure you that anyone who sees me knows that I am basically one step removed from full jammies, because I look TERRIBLE!! The only reason I do not go in full pajamas is that a friend of ours when I was growing up once had her car die in carpool line while she was wearing only her nightgown. Needless to say, it was awkward! ;)-Ashley
Oh, geez. I’m a little better in the winter b/c I can throw on a hoodie over my pajamas and no one knows the difference.
I’m homeschooling this year, so I go to school in my pajamas pretty frequently. ๐ But last year when my son went to preschool, I wore pajamas in the car pool line nearly every day. And we’re talking pajama-pajamas—my baggy heart-print men’s PJ pants from Old Navy with a hoodie and (sometimes) hat thrown on. Sometimes I went in workout clothes and headed for the gym afterward, but, like you, I often just want the chance to get ready at my leisure.
There’s so much to do to get the kids out the door. I like being able to take my time once I’m back home, kid-free.
I have to head to work after the cap pool lane, so I’m usually dressed up. But occasionally I go in workout clothes if I can squeeze in an hour at the gym before heading to the office.
Would have to, in that case!
I am in my Jammie’s and the kids tuck and roll! Two different schools.
YES! It makes a huge difference when you don’t have to get out of the car.
If I didn’t have to get up and get dressed for work, I would totally do school drop off in my pajamas, or at least what I wear for pajamas, which is usually a tshirt and shorts or yoga style pants.
I think maybe that’s why I don’t care that I’m in my pajamas- b/c mine could sort of pass for regular clothes.
My kids take the bus and our stop is on the corner of a fairly busy street. That my son’s teacher passes by on her way to school. Once I learned that I started getting dressed for the bus stop. Usually work out clothes or I throw on yesterday’s shorts with my pj t-shirt that no one can tell the difference. So I guess I get half dressed. If I’m driving them, I get fully dressed since I have to walk my son into school. But in the winter, my pj bottoms are so much warmer than jeans so I tend to head to the bus stop in my pjs more often. Don’t we all get a little lazier in the winter?
It’s hard to get out of those warm pajamas in the winter! We just do drop off at the curb of school, so no one sees me.
I don’t do drop off–my hubby does as I got to work early so I can head home earlier. But back when Turbo was in Kindergarten and I was working from home, I did get dressed, mostly because I had to stand with Turbo at his classroom door or make sure his backpack was left at the door and that he then made it to the playground. It also gets quite cold here early in the morning–I wanted the defense of clothes against the cold.
I would have done the same thing! It’s different when they just jump out in front of the school and I don’t have to get out of the van.
I’ve been caught in my pajamas at the gas station more than once,
Ask me how much I care?
Ha!
Love live jammies.
Comfort makes life better. True story.
I’ve done that a lot, too. Didn’t realize how low I was and had to stop for gas.
I actually have to walk through my condo lobby, through the car park, then walk the boys into school (or out of school when I pick them up), so I have to wear proper clothes, with underwear and all. ๐
Fortunately I don’t have to change when the husband takes her to school.
But I tend to not do the bus stop in PJs because I need to wear a bra. Trust me. ๐
But some days I’ll leave PJ pants on. I sleep in a T-shirt and pajama pants, so it’s kind of normal-ish looking!
My kids aren’t old enough yet for school drop-off, and when I was in charge of preschool drop-off, I had to head directly to work from drop-off, so I was ALWAYS dressed business professional or business casual.
But, if I were heading back home? I hate to say it, but I’d probably not even think twice about wearing naught but underwear to drop the kids off. Because I’m classy like that.
I look forward to having all three of my kiddos in school at the same time. It’ll be next year, in fact.
And I have a feeling I’ll be doing the exact same thing; get kiddos ready, take them to school while I”m still in jammies, and then come home and take care of me. At my pace.
Who knows! Maybe I’ll have time to paint my nails. Not holding my breath, though ๐
I drop off my son at school before I go to work, so getting dressed and ready is a requirement. But oh I wish I could take him to school while wearing my PJs and then go back home and get ready in the calm and silence of my home. Mornings are too rushed. I wish I could take more time.
