What to Wear For Family Photos: The Little Style File Giveaway

I have to admit that I am terrible when it comes to figuring out what to wear for events. And for pictures? Forget it. Especially family pics.

Family pics where you want to be sure that everyone in the pic looks like they belong to the same family… or in the same photo, at least! I’ve always heard the advice to mix prints, but had zero clue how to do that without making it turn out like some sort of clashing circus pic. So, I’ve been one to go for the matching clothes: everyone in jeans and a white shirt, that sort of thing.

But, we have a family photo session scheduled in the next few weeks and I wanted something different, not matchy-matchy. So, instead of trying to figure out something on my own, I turned to The Little Style File, since this is what they do.

The Little Style File

You contact them and let them know that you are interested in their services and they will reply back with their survey, where you can tell them what you are looking for. Whether it’s looks for the five of you for a family photo or maybe it’s a few looks for you for your high school reunion weekend.

You let them know any likes/dislikes you have, what sizes you are looking for, what sort of personal style best fits you, as well as what budget you are working with. And they’ll put some looks together for you. Here’s what they came up with for my family:

family style

The navy and khaki pairs of shorts are ones that I had let them know that my boys already had, so to incorporate those if they could. I also let them know that we’d probably use shoes we already had, but if they could just show suggestions of what types they’d recommend and I’d pull something like those from the closet if we had them. I totally bought the ones they suggested for me, though. They suggested if I had any earrings like those ones to use those and that’s what I’m doing.

I was able to review the looks and see if I liked what they had put together or if there were changes I wanted. After you finalize your looks, The Little Style File will send you links to where to buy the items online.

They came in under budget for me and they managed to have the looks from only a few different sites so that I wasn’t getting slammed with too many shipping fees(note: I live in the middle of shopping no-man’s-land, so I couldn’t just head to the store and pick up many of these- dude, we don’t even have a Gap). I was extremely happy with their service and would definitely use it again! I can’t wait to see how our family pics turn out!

Giveaway:Do you have an event coming up? The Little Style File will put together a look for family (up to 6 members) for an event. Enter in the rafflecopter widget below. That is an awesome service! What a smart idea for those of us who have no clue when coordinating outfits fro the family without just going with the usual “white tshirt and jeans look” that is so over used. 😛
I need to do new family photos. The last family photo that I had done was when Little E was 5 months old, Christmas of 07. We’re overdue!

Thinking about getting family photos done too. We have never had them done!!!! My tween would love if I used this service instead of going on my own!

I like the soft, similar tones and the casual and comfortable look of what they chose for you.

Enjoy the process of getting your photos done. Lots of moms don’t like to do it because they think they look bad, fat, skinny, wrinkly, old, etc. It’s important that we each remember that the photos show us as the mom and wife our families love so very dearly!

I hope you are able to share the end result when they are complete!

I’ve been looking at photographers because we definitely need to document our existence in something other than self-pics on our iPhones! lol Love the idea of having someone come up with the clothes though, I think thats the worst part!

We’re heading up to Vermont this June for my husband’s grandmother’s memorial service. His sisters and their kids ALWAYS look so well put together. We ALWAYS look like we just stepped out of the sweat shops. It would be so cool to look like we belong. (NB -his family is awesome. They NEVER EVER say anything. It just always shows up in the pictures.)

The casual wear would be great but I suggest also to wear cocktail dress to have this elegant touch for the family picture.

Oh how perfect this giveaway is!! We have family pictures coming up in a little over a month and I have NO idea what to wear for them. Hope I win, but even if I dont I think Ill still contact them and use their services.

A while back I read that it is a good idea to stay in the same color family, or start with complementing colors, and go from there. That’s what I try to do.

We have done several plus size mamas in the past!  We take all of the size information plus a family photo and do our best to select looks that represent every family member’s personality and makes them feel great!

I’d LOVE for them to pull together a look for me and the girls that is flattering (especially for my post-kid body that I’m not loving these days) but not too matchy-matchy.

We just added to our family and I’d love to be styled as a family of four instead of our little family of three. My 4 day post-partum body would love a little help too I think.
