How Tyson’s 100% Chicken Nuggets Help Me Keep a Balanced Diet for My Kids
A balanced diet for kids?
Doesn’t that mean one that they don’t spill off their plates? If so, I might actually have a shot at accomplishing that every day. Oh,wait, if you saw my kitchen floor, you’d know I was lying.
But, really, I want my kids to eat a balanced diet. And we actually do succeed.
Most of the time, anyway. 😉
My tips to getting your children to eat a balanced diet:
1. Offer healthy options that they actually like. Figure out what proteins, veggies, fruits, grains, etc. that your child wants to eat. Baked fish, spinach, and brown rice might be equally as healthy as a chicken, broccoli, and whole grain pasta dish, but if only one of those meals appeals to your child, go for the one they would like. For the record, two of mine like one of those meals while the third likes the other. SIGH.
2. No dessert unless you clean your plate. Did you have a flashback to an 80s sitcom? I did. Okay, maybe not clean their plate, but if your children know they’ll get a dessert no matter if they eat their meal or not, you may be fighting a losing battle.
3. Treat treats as a treat. Say that three times, fast. The key is balance. There’s no need for a special treat every single day. Unless your child’s special treat is an orange. But when it comes to things like ice cream and candy, remember that it’s called a treat for a reason: it should only be on special occasions.
