Shopping at The Home Depot #DigIn

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot.

I have a confession to make: I was a little intimidated when I headed into The Home Depot to buy the supplies to build a Flower Tower.

That store is HUGE! I guess that’s what happens when they have just about everything you can possibly think of for your home in one store. In the past, I’ve known which section I was going to: to drool over washer and dryers or to look at paint samples or to get a part to fix one of our toilets since my boys seem to constantly be breaking them.

With the Flower Tower, I figured that a good majority of the items I needed would be found in the garden center: work gloves(and oh, I found the cutest ones!), potting soil, landscape fabric, a flower pot, and of course flowers. But where would I find galvanized wire or a utility knife?

I did check out The Home Depot website before I headed into the store, just to get an idea of the total cost of my project and I did see that all the supplies on my list were listed as in stock in my local store. I was half tempted to simply buy most of what I needed online and select in-store pick up: something to keep in mind for my next project- especially if my husband is out of town and I don’t want to have to spend a lot of time in store with all three of my boys. In store pick up can be such a time saver!

When I walked into the store, I decided the easiest and fastest way to get all of my shopping done would be to ask for assistance. Brett, from The Home Depot in Jacksonville, NC, was so incredibly helpful. I explained the vertical gardening project that I wanted to do and he even showed me an in-store example that someone had created at one of The Home Depot’s workshops. He also took the time to watch the Flower Tower how-to video on my phone so he was sure he was steering me to the right items. He took my shopping list and led me around the store.

I chose petunias for my flower tower project.

While there’s so much you can find if you have time to spare and want to wander down the aisles, I’ve learned not to hesitate to ask for help. That’s what The Home Depot employees are there for. Unless I’d asked, it would have taken me forever to find the galvanized wire because it was in the far back corner of the store. But Brett took us right there.

Brett scanned different brands of galvanized wire for my vertical gardening project to find me the right one.

I also learned that The Home Depot employees can be super-specific about where something is. It’s not just “down aisle 25,” it’s “down aisle 25, in the third bay on the right.” Really makes it so easy. Plus, they were a huge help in determining how much I needed of some of the items, like potting soil and flowers. The help I received at The Home Depot got me in and out of the store quickly so I could head home to #digin to my project!

I tend to ask for help, mostly because I am impatient. My hubby on the other hand prefers wandering aimlessly forever, especially at Home Depot! Can’t wait to hear about the new vertical gardening project! :)-Ashley

I agree- it’s so much faster to just ask for help!

I always ask for help when I am there. Leo put a hole in the bathroom wall and I had to buy the stuff to fix it. The guys were super helpful and even pointed out the stuff that was cheap but efficient. After I read about your flower tower, I saw a commercial about it and immediately bragged to my husband that I knew someone that was doing that project. And I love petunias!

My boys saw that commercial and they were all excited. Then they were disappointed to learn ours wouldn’t be on tv. LOL

Wow! You are getting so domestic! How fun to plant flowers. We had snow here in Utah again this week. I’m glad Sport planted pansies, they can usually take the cold. Good luck with your project!

It’s been fun to try this project and realize I don’t have to have a super green thumb to do it!

I can’t imagine snow! We have been in the mid-80s all week!

They are so helpful there!  My husband is a manager at Home Depot and he was just telling me about this project…because I said I saw it on your blog.

Oh, how funny! So- do you do lots of projects around the house because of him working there?
