I don’t really need an excuse to bake, I just love to do it.
But, for the month of October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when you bake and share, money will be donated directly to The Cancer Couch Foundation. Through Bake It Happen, every photo posted will trigger a donation towards meaningful Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.
In case you’re wondering how baking fits into a fundraising campaign, Bake It Happen was created by two sisters, Shari and Stacy, who lost their mom to Metastatic Breast Cancer. This campaign honors Judy’s legacy, since she was a talented baker. They had so many requests for their mom’s recipes, so this campaign is a way to share those while also raising money. Bake It Happen is now in its 5th year and the sisters have successfully achieved their goal of making this a national campaign and have raised over $60,000 for Breast Cancer Research.
Bake It Happen has some delicious recipes for you to try. I made the Pumpkin Oatmeal Chip Cookies and they are delicious! I’m not usually a huge fan of pumpkin spice, but these have just the right amount of pumpkin flavor. They’re soft but the oatmeal and chocolate chips give them a good texture(though my boys had no idea there’s oatmeal in these- it’s not immediately obvious).
In addition to the Pumpkin Oatmeal Chip Cookies, there are recipes for Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf, Judy’s Black Bottom Cupcakes, and Compost Cookies. You can choose which you’d like to bake and then share it on Facebook or Instagram with #bakeithappen or email your photo to email@example.com.
Easy to do and you get a delicious treat while you’re at it!

I always disclose paid campaigns. This is not one of them. I’m sharing because it’s a great cause (and because of the delicious cookies).
