This is part of a sponsored campaign with Touchstone Crystal. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
I always knew I wanted to stay at home with my kids when they were babies. We had three boys within a span of less than three and a half years and had you asked me about plans to add any sort of work to my schedule when I was pushing two toddlers in a double stroller and wearing our newborn in a baby carrier, I don’t know if I even would have even been able to work up the energy to laugh at you.
But as they got just a little bit older(and needed more and more things), I did start thinking about how I could contribute to our household income. Anything that required me needing a sitter was out since the cost of childcare for three would have negated the majority of what I would make.
Though I did not start a blog in the hopes of turning it into a job(I didn’t even realize anyone did that back when I started blogging), it did end up leading to job opportunities: a writing job with another website and later social media jobs as I learned about how to best use those platforms.
My boys are all in school full-day now, so I’ve been asked many times if I’ll return to teaching. For now, my answer is no, as I continue to do social media work, which allows for a lot of flexibility in my schedule. I do a job that I love, but am still able to do things like volunteer in my boys’ classrooms.
While it’s not the work I would have ever anticipated doing(because social media wasn’t on anyone radar when I was in college), I’m thrilled to have found this balance between home and career.
I’ve seen many of my friends become “mompreneurs” as well, whether it’s through something similar to what I do or by becoming a consultant and selling something.
One such opportunity I’ve been introduced to recently is Touchstone Crystal. Touchstone Crystal Sales Consultants bring Swarovski sparkle directly to women in a person-to-person social selling business. It is a personal shopping experience that’s fun, easy and very rewarding! Hosts who gather their girlfriends together for a Touchstone Crystal jewelry party receive free jewelry and exclusive discounts and offers.
I am not a consultant and I have not attended a Touchstone Crystal party, but I thought I’d introduce another option to you, if you are looking for something different than what you already see a lot of in your facebook timeline. I was in college when I got pregnant with our first. I was already working at home a little on the side, so I developed that into more of a part-time job after he was born. Now, blogging and freelancing is what I do, and I don’t plan to leave home for work once my two boys are in school. My dream job is working at home blogging and being a social media manager for a few brands – enough work for a full-time income.
Taking care of kids, which I already do, is my dream job.

Those earrings are beautiful. I come from a family of accountants and lawyers. When I was younger I wanted to be a vet or train dolphins. I realized I never much cared for science but I loved math. Then came the dream of getting an accounting degree and becoming an CPA. I was going to go to law school but who wanted to spend all that time in college and then law school? If I knew then what I know now I should have opted for law. LOL. So, I got my Associates in Accounting, started working in the field fairly young (before I even got my degree) and then ended up as a tax accountant. I loved it. Then I divorced and moved 1600 miles away. I went back to school got my BA in business and then my MBA which I just finished last year. Life is very different now and I am not seeking employment back in Corporate America. The closer I get to 40, the more I really want to do something different with my life. I am still trying to find my way. Like you, blogging and social media marketing is a nice balance!
I love the sparkle of those earrings! Sometimes the best accessory is a nice pair of studs and nothing more.

It is great having the freedom to stay home with your kids. I have been a single mom for 10 years and for the last 8 years, an entrepreneur. It is risky, but having the flexibility to be there for my kids is awesome
