Lumps of Coal Treats and Free Printable Gift Tags

You know it’s December when I’ve already made my first cookie tray of the season.

While I love to bake, I also look for some easy treats to help fill out my cookie tray. One of my favorite Christmas treats is Lumps of Coal. They’re perfect for the holidays and so, so easy. Plus, because they’re really sweet, you’ll want to cut them into small pieces, which means that you can get a ton of treats out of one batch.

And since this one can be put together in just a few minutes, with a few minutes more of time to set, then they’re ready to be cut- they’re super quick and easy. You can either use them to fill up your Christmas cookie tray or put them in treat bags for a cute little holiday gift. Here’s the Lumps of Coal Gift Tags.

Lumps of Coal

Ingredients

  • 16oz package of Oreos (I bought the “family pack” that’s about 19oz- and just gave each of my 3 kids 2 oreos and called that about right- don’t worry about the exacts on this one)
  • 5 cups of large marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons of butter

Directions

Make oreo crumbs by putting your oreos into your food processor or blender (I use my Ninja for this- even though it always makes me nervous to see all those cookies in there, it really does make them into crumbs with just a few pulses)

Put your marshmallows and butter (it works better if you cut your butter into pieces first) into a medium microwaveable bowl and melt in the microwave until your marshmallow melt/are puffed up. This takes about a minute or so.

Pour the oreo crumbs into this mixture and stir to combine. It’s really thick- almost reminds me of playdoh.

You’ll want to prepare either an 8×8 or a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper and then dump the oreo mixture on this and smooth out. I used a 9×13 the last time, though it didn’t completely cover the whole thing- but that way they weren’t as thick as when I’ve used an 8×8.

Allow to set for about 10 minutes or so before cutting into small pieces. I use my pizza cutter for this.

I prefer to keep these in the fridge, though removing a little before serving, but that’s up to you.
