Look Good Feel Better #ReimagineBeauty

I participated in this program on behalf of Look Good Feel Better and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.

Last year, my sister-in-law went through a battle with cancer. She had stage 3 rectal cancer. While her biggest fear was not being able to be there for her kids, she has such a strong faith and was able to keep her positive attitude throughout her treatment. It did get to her that her treatments affected her appearance, especially since she’d spent the year prior losing weight and looked amazing. It was disheartening for her, even though she tried to focus on the other aspects of her treatment. She’s currently cancer-free.

While it might not seem that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things to worry about your looks while you are in the middle of a fight with cancer, not looking your best can affect self-esteem, courage, and confidence.

Look Good Feel Better is a non-medical, brand-neutral and free public service program dedicated to helping women living with cancer manage the appearance side effects of cancer treatment and improve their self-esteem. The program – developed by the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) Foundation, and delivered through a collaboration among the PCPC Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association – offers free workshops and other resources that teach beauty and styling techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance side effects of treatment to help change the lives of people with cancer by helping the whole person, inside and out.

During its 25th anniversary, Look Good Feel Better is encouraging women to Reimagine Beauty and its meaning and importance to women undergoing cancer treatment. We’re encouraged to take a fresh look at the impact of beauty and a positive self-image, and understand how much of a difference it can make.

Spread the Word about #ReimagineBeauty and win!

#ReimagineBeauty encourages all women – in a small way – to virtually experience Look Good Feel Better and to “reimagine beauty” and the power it can have to restore confidence and courage to women undergoing cancer treatment.

You can show your support in three simple ways:

1. Visit the Look Good Feel Better website to try the Virtual Makeover tool.

2. Use the Look Good Feel Better Virtual Makeover tool by uploading your photo and trying the new hair and makeup looks. Through this experience, women everywhere can experience, in a small way, the help women living with cancer receive during a Look Good Feel Better workshop so that they can “reimagine beauty.”

3. Share the “after” photo from the Virtual Makeover tool on Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #ReimagineBeauty, to spread awareness and to be entered for a chance to win a trip to the National Women’s Survivors Convention to participate in the Look Good Feel Better 25th anniversary party. The winner will be selected randomly after the contest ends on July 1 and if you win, you have the option to give your prize to a friend or family member who is a cancer survivor.

What a great program. I have a friend who recently beat breast cancer, and this would have been so great for her while she was going through treatments. What a mood-lifter.

I had never heard of this program before but love what I’ve read. I know cancer is the most difficult thing to deal with medically but since going through treatment also affects a cancer fighter’s beauty and self-esteem I love this program. Anything to help one feel a little better while they are dealing with so much medically and life threatening.

Cancer is tough enough without the physical changes that it and the treatments bring.  I think it’s great that there are programs to help people feel better about themselves as they go through a very trying time.

Thank you for sharing this story. I wonder what I would look like with Rhianna’s hairdo!?

Tools like this are so great for trying new hairstyles. I always think about cutting my hair short after it’s grown long, but then I remember how long it took to get it past my shoulders lol. I like the option to try out the cuts/colors digitally beforehand.

  22. Rosey says

    May 23, 2014 at 11:18 am

Looking your best is important because if you’re not looking your best, you know people are judgmental. It should not matter, but sometimes it does, esp. when you’re feeling vulnerable.

And LOL at Krystal’s comment above mine. I wonder what I would look like w/Rhianna’s hairdo? Hahhaha

Despite what you’re dealing with feeling good about yourself both physically and mentally is an important thing! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve felt absolutely disgusting dealing with my chronic illness and that greatly effected my mental attitude.

I’m definitely going to have to check this out and get my own virtual makeover for a good cause 🙂
