Joining the Capri Sun Crew

This post is part of a series as a compensated #CapriSunCrew ambassador.

My boys are soccer ball kicking, basketball shooting, baseball hitting, karate chopping, race running kids. It seems we’re always headed to or from a practice or a game. You can always find me on the sidelines with my phone, a book, my most comfortable folding chair, sunglasses, and a bag with extra clothes, snacks, and Capri Sun Juice Drinks.

So when I was asked to be a part of the #CapriSunCrew, it was such a perfect fit. It’s one of those things we buy in bulk from Sam’s Club because we know we’ll go through it all. In March, I had the opportunity to go to Chicago to learn more about Capri Sun. It was a fun trip and if you haven’t heard Capri Sun’s latest news, I think you’ll be really excited about it!

I stayed at The Drake Hotel and couldn’t believe there was snow on the ground that late in the year, since at home the day before, my boys were seriously sweating at soccer practice.

We had dinner at Chicago Q, which even to this Carolina girl, had amazing BBQ. During dinner, I got into a rousing discussion with Greg from Capri Sun about how important it is for coaches and parents to keep sports fun for young kids since the number one reason why they quit is because they no longer enjoy it. You can see this love for play in the new Capri Sun commercials.

The following day, we all headed to the Kraft Headquarters to take a tour and learn more about Capri Sun.

Getting ready for our tour

Getting ready for our tour

I’ve written about Capri Sun in the past and I know that a concern some of you had was about the high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in the Capri Sun Juice Drinks. Many moms shared this same concern. And while I worked around it by usually purchasing their 100% juice pouches or only buying the juice drinks in moderation, now it’s not a concern. Because Capri Sun listens to moms, they just made a huge change.

capri-sun-crew

A big pouch for the big news!

While Capri Sun Juice Drinks already didn’t have any artificial preservatives, colors or flavors (with the colors being something you could easily see since last year when they went to the clear bottomed pouch), now they have replaced HFCS with sugar in its original line of Capri Sun Juice Drinks.  They now have 35% less sugar than other leading juice drinks.*

Other changes Capri Sun is making:

  • Replacing sucralose with stevia and HFCS with sugar in its Roarin’ Waters Flavored Water Beverages.
  • Taking more than 25 billion calories out of the marketplace annually.

Whether you go for Capri Sun Juice Drinks, Capri Sun 100% Juice, Capri Sun Super V, a Fruit & Vegetable Drink,  or Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters Flavored Water Beverage, you’ll see all new packaging, which will clearly show the benefits of each type of drink.

No more HFCS!

After learning this exciting news, we had a delicious lunch, took a tour of the Kraft Test Kitchen (which has a pantry I would die for), and talked about best practices when it comes to packing our kids’ lunches. We even had time to shop in the Kraft store and put our goodies in a bag made out of Capri Sun pouches (this bag has already been the talk of the sidelines at my boys’ soccer games).

Then it was time for the #CapriSunCrew to head home.

I hope you’re excited to hear about Capri Sun’s changes! During the next few months, I’ll be writing more about Capri Sun and even have an awesome giveaway for you.

Summer Fun with Capri Sun

In the meantime, if you haven’t seen the new Capri Sun ads, here’s one of them (you can see what I mean about them encouraging play):

Do your kids drink Capri Sun? What do you think about the changes Capri Sun is making?

*Capri Sun Juice Drinks  have 13g sugars while leading regular juice drinks have 22g sugars per 6 fl oz serving.

Wow, I haven’t really heard much the changes Capri Sun is making, I don’t watch the right networks to see their commercials. I’m going to share this with my friend who has two little girls. They LOVE CapriSun with a scary, scary passion. Thanks for the info! And, congrats on becoming part of the crew, that must be pretty awesome!

My kids haven’t ever had Capri sun I don’t think. We try to stay away from prepackaged juices but this sounds great and may make me consider grabbing some!

My kids do drink Capri Sun. They are a mainstay in our cooler that we keep outside in our yard during the summer. I’m all for drinks that use less sugar!

That is so great that they have listened to their consumers and made a positive change to the products. I’ll be more inclined to purchase a box next time I am at the store now!

I’m glad they switched from HFCS to sugar, but I still don’t give it to my kids. I don’t like giving them things like Stevia. I prefer not to give them sugar at all, but if I do, it’s real sugar. Still, I’m very happy to hear they’re listening to what moms want.

The regular fruit drinks is now just real sugar. And there’s always the 100% fruit juice option!

But they already need tons of energy to produce them!

    • Shell says

      May 18, 2015 at 4:07 pm

You could say that about a lot of different products. Everyone has to decide what works best for their families. We do drink these individually packaged drinks but then buy snacks in big packages not the individual. Or choose to buy fruits and veggies from the farmer’s market and not in individual snack packs from the grocery store. It’s all choices. 😉
