I Can’t Find Matching Socks and Other Perfectly Valid Reasons Not to Go to School at the End of the Year

The closer we get to the end of the school year, the easier it is for me to find reasons why the kids should stay home for a day or two.

The kids are too cranky to get up.

We were just there yesterday.

I can’t find three pairs of matching clean socks (or even matching dirty socks).

We’re out of our usual breakfast foods and no one should go to school hungry.

Chick-fil-a is giving out free breakfasts this morning.

We’re all out of food that we usually pack in lunches.

I’m too embarrassed by the outrageous amount we owe on lunch accounts and need the full day to figure out what my password is to the online payment center.

I’d have to put gas in the car in order to get to school drop off and that’s a lot of effort.

We all need to search the house top to bottom for that missing library book.

We can’t find any pencils.

We’re out of the “concentration” essential oil blend.

There’s no state testing today.

State testing starts soon and the kids need to relax a little bit, take some of the pressure off.

State testing ended yesterday and now the kids need a break.

The cat gets depressed when everyone leaves him.

We have to get up early tomorrow, so we might as well sleep in today.

We had to get up early yesterday.

One of the kids outgrew their shoes.

We’ve managed to avoid all of the lice epidemics and I’d like to keep our record.

It’s raining.

It’s going to be way too hot today.

We have a sudden cold snap and all the warm clothes have already been put away.

I can’t find a hair tie and I don’t want to drive to school drop off with my hair in my face.

We need time to catch up on this season’s Survivor before the finale.

We should go shopping for teacher appreciation gifts.

One of the teachers could really use a break from my extremely chatty child.

Tomorrow is field day, so the kids need rest.

Yesterday was field day, so they’re extra tired.

It’s field day and it’s pouring down rain, so that’s too much of a bummer to deal with.

Some sort of elaborate costumes were needed for a dress up day and we never got around to making/buying them.

Our indoor cat might run out the door when we open it to leave.

My boys think grocery shopping and running errands sounds like a lot of fun.

A new movie came out and it’s cheaper to go to a matinee.

A new donut shop opened and the line will be shorter during the school day.

There’s a 1% chance those sniffles are actually from a cold instead of spring allergies.

I thought today was Saturday.

I started heard a rumor that school is now optional on Wednesdays.

The teachers are over this year anyway.

I’m over this school year and want to pretend it’s already summer.
