How to Save Money on Prescriptions

Tracking Pixel
Because I love saving money, I’m partnering with ScriptSave® WellRx to share how I save money on prescriptions.

Good deals: they’re kind of my specialty.

In order for my family of five to not just have what we need, but also some of what we want, it really helps if I can find deals. I research and know where the free or reduced kids’ meals are for when we want to eat out, what entertainment places run discounts on which days, and how to get even better deals by using discounted gift cards.

Paying full price isn’t something I do often and those savings help us to have the money for all of the sports and activities my boys participate in during the school year.

One thing I’d always had a hard time finding any sort of deal on was prescription medications. I figured that whatever price I was told was what I had to pay and it’s not like I could decide to skip that medication, the way I can decide to pass up going to the movies.

When I dropped off a prescription to be filled this past summer, during a time when we had a gap in our insurance due to my husband switching jobs, the pharmacist looked at me with concern and asked if I knew how much the prescription was going to be. Because the dosage had changed from the last time I’d had to pay out of pocket for it, I actually didn’t know. Turned out it was close to $300 for a month’s supply.

The pharmacist was very helpful and told me that a few other pharmacies in town were actually cheaper. I had no idea that prescription prices can change daily, and the same medication can vary greatly in cost from one pharmacy to the next.

While I found a better price at another pharmacy (around $250), that was still an awful lot to pay for a prescription. With the ScriptSave® WellRx pricing tool, I could find an even better rate: $109.44.

Whether you pay for your prescriptions on your own or if you have insurance but have high out of pocket costs, you can check to see how much ScriptSave WellRx can save you. You can check the site or the app and it will show you the prices at the different pharmacies near you.

A pharmacist can price the medication with insurance, then compare that against the ScriptSave WellRx price, then you decide can which rate makes most sense. You can only pick one discount – you can’t use the ScriptSave WellRx discount on top of the insured price, but depending on what your insurance plan is, the ScriptSave WellRx price might be the better deal for you.

You can save up to 75% on prescription prices, though an average savings is around 44%. The next time you fill your prescription, there may be a better discount available, so make sure you check the app before each refill.

Once you’ve downloaded your savings card (using the special Invite Code CANTSAY), you can search drug prices on the site, before taking the card to best pharmacy in your area. It’s active immediately to start saving right away.
