This winter has felt like the flu season that will never end. And just when we have a few warm days and I start to think we’re past all the cold, the weather changes again.
Thankfully, no one in my house has had the flu (yes, I stopped typing to go knock on wood and say a prayer), but we’ve had various colds and sickness that left us tired, achy, and cranky. We bundle up under blankets, nap on the couch, and binge watch old tv shows- which really sounds like a fantastic way to spend a day- if not for the sickness part of it.
For my first go-round, I was drinking a Starbucks Medicine Ball Copy Cat after trying the drink at Starbucks but not wanting to keep paying that price for one drink or have to repeatedly go out to get it when I’d rather just be at home in bed. If you aren’t feeling well or your kids aren’t feeling well, definitely give that one a try.
But if it’s you (or another adult) who isn’t feeling well and it’s nighttime or if you don’t have to drive anywhere, you might want to try this more “adult” cold and flu remedy. Yes, it contains alcohol, so adults only, y’all. It’s a comforting drink, with the lemon and honey feeling good on my throat.
I’ve heard people talk about having a hot toddy when they’re sick or sometimes just when they’re cold. They’re really simple to make. Give this one a try!

- 1 tablespoon of honey

- lemon slices and cinnamon sticks, optional
- Pour hot water in a large mug.
- Add in whiskey, honey and lemon juice. Stir.
