Hopes for a New School Year

May they have a safe year.

Let their school and their classes be a welcoming place where they feel cared for.

Let it be a place they want to go.

May their teachers be a good fit.

And if they aren’t, let my child learn the hard lesson of how to deal with it.

Let them learn, improving a little more each day.

Let me remember it’s not always about the end result, but seeing them grow along the way.

May they be kind to others, not just their friends.

Let them each make a good friend.

A true friend who lets them see it’s not about quantity but quality.

If they encounter a bully, let them stand up for themselves.

Do not let them be the bullies.

Let them gain confidence.

But may they stay humble.

Let their schoolwork challenge them.

But may they not be so frustrated they start to hate it.

Don’t let their homework take away all their free time.

Instead let it take just enough time to be useful.

May they figure out what they’re good at and have a passion for.

And let them learn they can still do what doesn’t come easiest to them.

Let this year be a good one for them.
