My dear sweet boy. My firstborn, turning 9.
I know it’s cheesy and cliche to say, but I feel like you were just a tiny little newborn. One who hated sleep and would only nap all snugged up with your mama.
And suddenly, you’re a big kid. You love basketball, soccer, running, Minecraft, LEGO, and pretty much all things video game related. Biographies are your go-to when it’s time to read or Harry Potter or Goosebumps if you have to read fiction.
You hate being wrong or in second place. You have a set idea of how things should be done and aren’t a fan of deviating from your plan. But your plans are usually well thought-out and on the right track.
You’re pretty slow to anger but when you are angry, it’s quite the sight. Like me, you need time to do things on your own and don’t always want company or at least not company that insists you talk to them.
You have such a good heart, being concerned about how others will feel. You never want to make anyone feel bad(except maybe your brothers every once in a while).
Sometimes your dad and I do expect more of you as the oldest. I hope you’ve never felt like we didn’t just let you be the age you are, but understand that it’s because we know what you are capable of.
This is the last year you’ll be single digits. Next year, it will be the big 1-0. I know the time is limited when you still want me to show up in your classroom for events, still want to curl up with me to watch a movie, still want to hold my hand. So I’ll take it all in now. Even though you think you’re so big now that you’re 9, I’ll enjoy you still being my little boy.
