Hasbro Game Night: Monopoly

When my husband and I were first married, we often played board games. It was something fun to do together that was a cheap date night. Even if we bought a new game, it was still more budget-friendly than heading out to dinner and movie.

Now, we often have game nights with friends: the adults play board games while the kids entertain themselves upstairs: much, much cheaper than going out and having to pay a babysitter.

But it’s not just the adults that like games. Our kids have started to like playing board games as well.

One of the classics is of course MONOPOLY, though we played it in a totally different way, with The Hasbro Game Channel.

The Hasbro Game Channel can be downloaded on Xbox One and PlayStation®4, while MONOPOLY, RISK, and TRIVIAL PURSUIT can be downloaded individually on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3.  We have an Xbox One and I have to say that with all the cool things you can do with it(including The Hasbro Game Channel), I probably use it just as much, if not more than, the kids do.

MONOPOLY Plus brings the world’s favorite family gaming brand to a new level with the original 2D MONOPOLY board as well as a colorful and lively animated 3D version that evolves as you progress in the game. MONOPOLY Plus lets players choose their favorite ‘House Rules’ to customize gameplay. Up to six players will be able to enjoy MONOPOLY Plus online or offline. You can choose to have each player have their own controller or to have everyone pass the one. We’ve found it easier to simply use one.

What is really cool about playing this with my kids is that the game helps teach them the rules. It makes them pay another player when they land on their property and keeps track of who has what property where everyone can easily see. There’s no arguing over whether something is fair or if that’s what the rule really is because the game automatically does that for us. It’s super helpful for those who have never played before.

There are also fun features like photos of different events in the game, like the first person to buy property or even to go to jail. You can see my oldest was the first to get all three of one color property, so he became a real estate manager.

Our game came to end when our cat decided to turn off our Xbox One, but my kids are excited to play MONOPOLY again.

I’m excited to play TRIVIAL PURSUIT on The Hasbro Game Channel next. I’ll confess to getting a wee bit competitive when it comes to trivia games.

Hah, our cat turns off the console during family game night, too! Either than or sits in front of the screen and paws at it.

We love family game nights, but they’ve become a little stale recently since we keep playing the same games over and over. This looks like the best way possible to mix it up. I know we’d all have a blast!
