*Sniffle, sniffle* There will be no black and gold to cheer for during these last weeks of the football season. But that doesn’t mean we stop watching around here. We just don’t have as many of our game day traditions to fall back on when we aren’t cheering for our favorite team.
It’s funny how those game day traditions change, too, based on where we’re living (and with the ages of our kids, too).
When we lived in Pittsburgh and our kids were babies, game days usually meant going to church clad in jerseys like the majority of the congregation and service usually letting out a little earlier than usual so everyone could get home to watch the game. We’d put the kids down for naps and hope to watch mostly uninterrupted. Though sometimes the boys wanted to be part of the excitement, too.
If we were actually going to a football game, it meant hours of prep to tailgate because that was taken seriously: you need to pack like you’re going away for a few days.
But now we live in eastern Carolina and the team we cheer for is out of the running this year. Our number 2 team still has a shot (chosen by the state we live in, no bandwagon jumping here).
Things are much more laid back now: sure, we watch. But preparing to watch the big game usually just means making sure the house is clean, making some dips and other snacks, and being getting ourselves ready to have company over, since it’s much more fun to watch with friends. Now that our kids are a little older, we don’t have to worry about naps and they usually stay up for the later games, at least once we get down to the final few games and definitely for the big game.
Aside from a jersey and sometimes some really fun matching leggings, getting myself ready doesn’t take much time. I’ll swipe on some COVERGIRL LashBlast Mascara Volume which gives me 100% more volume with COVERGIRL’s biggest brush ever. And while my beauty routine can best be described as simple, one of the products I do use on a regular basis are the Crest 3D White Whitestrips Professional Effects. Their Advanced Seal™ Technology means no-slip grip stays put and gives me results that last up to 12 months. And sometimes, you’ll find me sneaking away to use my Oral B Vitality touthbrush, with MicroPulse bristles that clean between teeth. What can I say? I tend to like spicy, garlicky foods and I need to go brush so I don’t knock someone over with my breath when I’m cheering.
I can find everything I need for the big game at Walmart. Whether it’s beauty products or party supplies or cleaning products. I have to admit, I do like how much simpler our game day traditions have become. I’m okay cheering from my couch in comfort, with friends.
