This post is part of a program with Quaker and The Motherhood, who sent me a box of products and compensated me for my time. Opinions, experiences and photos shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.
Now that Fall is here, my family’s schedule is packed! School and homework are a huge priority around here, but after that part of our day is done, it’s off to activities for us.
All three of my boys play soccer and take karate. My oldest is involved with a running program through his school and it’s almost time to sign up for basketball for all three.
They love the activities they are involved with. Organized sports not only teaches them the skills they need to play the game, but also teaches them teamwork and keeps them active.
While our school has a program in place where all of the kids get 30 minutes of physical activity a day(more on days when they have PE), we still need to make time for at least 60 minutes of play a day.
By having scheduled practices and games, we don’t skip over that part of our day in favor of something less active: we know we need to be there, so we get it done.
On days when we don’t have practices or games, you’ll still find my boys playing outside: jumping on the trampoline, inventing some complicated game of tag(that usually means no matter what, I’m forever “it”), kicking or throwing a ball around, riding their bikes, or racing each other.
They are highly competitive both with each other and even with their own personal best, so to encourage them to move, I use a stopwatch and see if they can beat their best time for racing around the house or through cones or the number of jumps they can do in a minute.
For the Love of Play
This fall, Quaker is joining forces with Fuel Up to Play 60 and the NFL to launch the For the Love of Play campaign to help fuel healthy families and encourage them to get active for 60 minutes of play a day.
The campaign hopes to inspire and empower families and communities to get up and get active – at school, at home and everywhere in between.
Play is fun and easy! Whether it’s flag football with friends, active brain breaks at school, a game of tag in the backyard with your family or organized sports – the ways to play are endless.
Now through December 1, 2014, you can visit QuakerMakethePlay.com to share the unique way that your family plays for a chance to win a grand prize “Day of Play” in your hometown with Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck, plus daily giveaways for a $50 NFLShop.com online gift card. My boys are pretty active. Whether it’s soccer, karate or just riding their bikes – they are always on the go!
Great prize pack. I love that they’re encouraging movement and play time.
We play outside almost everyday. Between the trampoline, kicking soccer balls, and riding bikes my kids get far more then 60 minutes of play.
We like to play Frisbee.
We try to make sure our son gets SOME outdoor time each day. This past weekend, we did the second longest corn maze trail that is nearby our house. It was 1.2 miles – and that was in addition to letting him run throughout the field. It made for a really great nap time.
Our son just started a new fitness program on Monday mornings before school as well as a before school intramural soccer program another day a week. Mix that with one day of karate and a few other days at soccer and the park, he gets at least 60 minutes a day of activity, if not more. By the end of the day, he’s tired!
we love playing at the park.we always have balls and ropes and things in the car
We normally go for a walk every night after dinner!

I am impressed with Quaker and its sponsorship of healthy families. Every prize is terrific. Congratulations on the energetic kids. We used to run a 5K at least twice a month. Then the kids had the nerve to grow up and move away:)

This is a great campaign that Quaker is doing, kudos to them for trying to keep kids and families active. My kids get a good work out at school during PE but at home I try to take them on walks, or just playing in the backyard after school. It really depends on the weather.
