Empowering Women Together

Empowering women worldwide to build better lives for themselves and their families. Who wouldn’t want to support that?

And we can help. By shopping. Don’t you just love an excuse to shop? I can say this isn’t spending money, it’s supporting other women.

walmart_empowering_women_togetherWalmart announces the launch of Empowering Women Together, an online destination that gives shoppers who want to buy unique and interesting products the opportunity to do so while supporting small women-owned businesses around the world. See, shopping for a good cause!

Each purchase helps to create new jobs and improve both their own lives and the lives of their families and communities.

Empowering Women Together leverages Walmart’s size and scale(since we all shop at Walmart, right? I think I see half my town every time I go to Walmart) to offer access to customers for women who otherwise might be unable to attain it.

At launch, Empowering Women Together will offer more than 200 items from 19 businesses in nine countries. Products include jewelry from Peru, Rwanda, Kenya and the U.S.; home accessories from Rwanda and Haiti; paper mache from Haiti, apparel and accessories from Rwanda; iPad and laptop cases from Cambodia and Nepal; coffee and tea sets sourced globally and made in America; and specialty foods made in America and Canada. I’m crushing on the Nomi Network for Full Circle Exchange Recycled Rice Bag Quilted iPad Case in purple.

Empowering Women Together is part of Walmart’s Global Women’s Economic 5-year commitment through 2016 to source $20 billion from women-owned businesses.

You can see more info in this Empowering Women Together video. Or head over to Walmart’s Empowering Women Together Pinterest Board. Oooh, pin all the pretty things! What did we do before Pinterest?

What a nifty idea! Thanks for the heads up on this new launch from Wal-Mart, and kudos to them for leveraging their size for this worthy cause!

What a cool idea.  With all the bad publicity Walmart gets, I think this is a step in the right direction.

I know- I usually hear people saying bad things about Walmart. It’s nice to see this!

That is cool and good for Walmart for doing something to try and give back.

Wow, I really wouldn’t have thought Walmart would be so socially responsible. Nice to see.
