Dark Hope Book Review and Giveaway

If you check out the books I’ve read on my Goodreads shelves or if you ask me for a suggestion for a book to read, most of the time, it’s Young Adult books that I read.

It started when I had to take Children’s and Young Adult Literature classes in college, though I’ve always been a reader. But, after that, I mostly read YA. I read the books my students read and could talk about the books with them or call their bluff when they claimed to have read a book I knew they hadn’t.

But beyond my teaching days, it was still Young Adult books I reached for. I think because most of the stories are easy to relate to. The stories are usually about more than just the story, there are overarching themes(sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle, but the books are usually about more than they appear on the book jacket- or Amazon description, if you’re an e-book reader like me).

Review of Dark Hope by Monica McGurk, book one of the Archangel Prophecies

Dark Hope, Book One of the Archangel Prophecies is no exception. Hope was kidnapped as a young child, found in a very mysterious way, with an unexplained mark on her neck(don’t worry, this isn’t a vampire book- am I the only one completely over any mention of vampires?).

Her very religious father kept her sheltered from the world(for reasons he’ll explain later). But now Hope wants a little more freedom, so she goes to live with her mom. While there, she meets Michael(given his name and the name of this series by Monica McGurk, you can probably figure out exactly who he is).

Dark Hope talks about the war among the angels and introduces us to the Fallen, some terrifying angels. We find out what the mark on Hope’s neck means and how she’s connected to an ancient prophecy that will put her at odds with the angel she’s starting to fall in love with.

I don’t want to reveal too much about Dark Hope(I HATE book spoilers), but I will say that I can’t wait for the second book to see what happens next(and that I don’t trust Henri, so if you read, let me know what you think about him).

Dark Hope sounds like an incredible book to read. I really enjoy young adult books, especially ones in series. The Warrior series (about Warrior Cats) has been pored over time and time again. I entered to win a copy (under Ora Lee Gurr), but you can bet I will be buying a copy if someone else wins. Thanks for the great review!

This doesn’t sound like a book that I would pick up for myself but I said the same thing about Twilight. I think maybe I just don’t want to admit I like reading young adult fiction sometimes.
