I might have actually snorted when a new soccer mom made the comment that the reason her child was playing soccer was because it’s a team sport but not a contact sport.
While soccer isn’t football (do I need to say American football?), having the right youth soccer gear for soccer protection is so important. Players get aggressive going after the ball, knocking into each other, getting knocked down, bumping heads as they go for the ball, taking a ball hard to part of their body. And seriously: #INJURIESSUCK!
My boys tend to like playing goalie and one of my boys took a ball so hard to the chest stopping a goal that even the parents on the other team stood up and clapped for him when he got up.
As a soccer mom, I think about sports injury protection, while still wanting my boys to feel confident when they play. Wrapping them in bubble wrap would probably keep them safe, but wouldn’t help their game or make them feel like they’re competent out there on the field.
Sometimes the youth soccer gear out there tends to look the same to me. My boys aren’t fans of that- they tend to go for the neon soccer socks and shoes when they can.
