Cavity Protection in Our Bedtime Routine #besweetsmart

I taught my child the importance of oral health care with LISTERINE® SMARTRINSE®, as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #besweetsmart

Mondays are always the longest weekday for my family.

Despite claiming that my boys would each only be involved with one activity each season and that if I were to allow two, they certainly wouldn’t be on the same night, on Mondays they have soccer from 5:30-6:45 and then karate from 7:00-7:45.

It seems to be working out so far, so we’re sticking with it. But that means that they do their homework right after they get home from school, eat a heavy snack, go to soccer then karate, home by 8pm, then it’s a quick dinner, shower(and all that bathroom stuff), and then it’s off to bed they go.

But despite all the rushing around and my desire for them to get to bed as quickly as humanly possible once we’re home, we don’t sacrifice oral hygiene just to get to bed a few minutes earlier.

Help prevent kids cavities

My three boys have to brush, floss, and do “swishies” aka use mouthwash every morning and night. We joke that they need to do it in the morning so they don’t knock anyone over with their morning breath(they’ll happily show you a demonstration if you ask, so make sure you don’t ask!) and they know they need to get rid of the “sugar bugs” at night(thank their preschool teacher for that expression that somehow stuck around- but hey, if it makes kids want to brush, I’ll take it).

They know that mouthwash (swishies) reaches places in their mouths that a toothbrush can’t. Or even places that a toothbrush could reach, but they miss because they aren’t perfect brushers. Plus, you get to make some pretty funny faces and then SPIT when you use mouthwash. Spit, without getting yelled at!

kids cavities

Not only does mouthwash reach places a toothbrush doesn’t, but LISTERINE® SMARTRINSE® strengthens teeth 99% better than brushing alone. Using it also provides 12 hour cavity protection, something reassuring to me as a mom during the upcoming season of treat. I’d prefer we could #besweetsmart and have a healthy Halloween and not have to deal with kids’ cavities!

cavities in children

My boys have zero desire to have to deal with cavities. They haven’t had any yet, but they’ve been sufficiently freaked out by friends’ tales of dentist visits that aren’t just routine check-ups that they’re on board with keeping their cavity-free track record going.

LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® mouthwash is an anticavity mouthwash for kids ages six and older, so it’s great for my three boys. Plus, it’s fun for them because they could pick fun characters on their “swishies.” They thought they’d want the Avengers, but ended up preferring Perry the Platypus because they prefer Bubble Blast over Mint Shield. They don’t care what flavor is in the Barbie bottle, they won’t touch it. I think they’d probably take mint over something girly. Boys.

#besweetsmart this Halloween and avoid cavities in children

Do your kids use mouthwash as part of their bedtime routine? How do you help them #besweetsmart?

We use a ton of Listerine products in our house and have been for years. They are the best.

My boys use that brand of mouthwash and we don’t skimp on oral hygiene either, even tough some nights I would rather just put them to bed rather than have them brush their teeth. But all of my boys are in the no cavity club and we would like to keep it that way.

I love Listerine products. When my kids were little we used a rinse that would turn the teeth blue so the kids could see where they did not brush enough. Now that they are older we all use Listerine mouth wash as part of our daily routine.

I love that it’s called swishies to keep away the sugar bugs. Whatever works! Jake had a little trouble with the oral hygiene routine when he was younger, but at almost 18 it’s part of his daily routine. He has to look good, lol.

I actually like the smart rinse product myself for ME. I’m 29, but it’s hard to find a good floride rinse for adults, so I use the kid stuff plus listerine at night. I love the comment about morning breath! It made me laugh, but it’s true. Nobody wants to have morning breath haha

Totally agree . Teaching your kids good oral care at a young age will lead to a beautiful smile later in life. Not to mention good healthy teeth.

My oldest son uses this, he was getting cavities like crazy despite brushing twice a day, so we started using this too.

My kids didn’t use mouthwash when they were young. I definitely love it now though to reach all the places the toothbrush doesn’t.

You’re so smart to have them do them their swishies! It really does make a big difference.

He is such a cute little boy! We are definitely planning to get some rinse for my daughter. She gets stinky breath a lot and I love the built-in cap that shows you how much to use!

My boys brush, but I have not started them on mouthpiece. I should start them doing it soon. The smart rinse sounds like a.good place to start them.

Having a routine is so important. My two boys have become pros at the “habit” of brushing. My oldest loves the Listerine SmartRinse. It gives me an extra piece of mind.

I’ll have to try this with our baby boy. We just got him to stop swallowing the water we give him to rinse with! LOL!

Wow! You run a tight ship! It’s great how your kids are still able to take the time to properly care for their teeth, even with such a packed schedule. Now that is great parenting! And get a load of that Batman bathroom! It’s so cute!
