Blue Mouths and Swishing Away the Sugar Bugs

I taught my children the importance of oral health care with LISTERINE® Smart Rinse, as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #LISTERINE

We’ve reached that time in the soccer season: playoffs. When if we want to see Coach Dad, we spend an awful lot of time sitting in bleachers on chilly nights, watching to see if the team he coaches will advance or if the season is over. They’ve made it to another round, so it looks like we know what we’re doing this weekend, too.

I try to feed the kids dinner before the soccer games since it’s way past our dinner time when they’re over. But, occasionally, we end up with a concession stand dinner (I may have just had a pretzel with cheese as my dinner last night). But even if we do eat ahead of time, my boys tend to ask to visit the concession stand, even bringing their own money for treats.

They’re kids so they like treats. I send them by themselves to get their own snacks; I can still see them, it’s good to let them do things on their own, and I do actually want to watch the game instead of taking multiple trips to the concession stand.

Before they go, I usually tell them what they can’t get: pixie sticks and the bag of cotton candy that’s as tall as my 7 year old are off limits. But because it was chilly last night and because I didn’t realize they even sold them, I didn’t tell my boys to stay away from the sno-cones. And then I wanted to bang my head off the nearest bleacher at the sight of the aftermath:

My first thought was ohmygosh, my boys need to make sure they do an amazing job brushing their teeth tonight. My second thought was to remind myself to add sno-cones to the list of non-preferable concession stand snacks.

But even though my boys would brush until I could no longer see any blue, I know that they need to also use LISTERINE® SMART RINSE since it cleans places that the toothbrush alone can’t reach. As much as my boys like their sweets, they have zero desire for cavities and LISTERINE® Kids provides 12 hour cavity protection as well as strengthening teeth 99% better than brushing alone. My kids call it doing swishies to get rid of the sugar bugs.

My kids use it every night before they go to bed, even on the nights they don’t have blue mouths. We also keep a bottle of LISTERINE® SMART RINSE in our downstairs bathroom so they can use it after breakfast and before they head off to school.

Using LISTERINE® is a daily habit for me and using LISTERINE® SMART RINSE is a habit for my kids. They know it’s important to take care of their teeth… even if their snacking habits aren’t always the best.

What snacks do your kids choose when they get to pick a treat? Does your family use LISTERINE®?
