Behind Closed Doors

I’ve been reading so much this summer and sharing some good reads with you, though this is an advertisement for SheSpeaks/St. Martins Press. For a book that will haunt me- so definitely check it out.

My boys have been participating in our library’s summer reading program, turning in reading logs for prizes. I always joke that I should be able to fill out a reading log, too- especially since some of the prizes the library gives out are candy and I have such a sweet tooth.

We make time for reading nearly every day in my house, but when I find a book that I can’t put down, I’ll read for hours. It’s setting a good example for the kids, right?

I started reading Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris yesterday morning during my son’s swim team practice and it immediately had me intrigued. The back cover had some comparisons to Gone Girl, which had me thinking there were some serious twists coming. And there were… but I liked this much more than I liked Gone Girl.

I’m always a little skeptical of people who appear to live perfect lives. That makes me a little jaded, I know, but no one has everything together and when people try to put up that front, I assume they’re hiding something. Sometimes it’s no big deal and other times, it’s something truly awful.

In the case of Jack and Grace Angel, what’s hidden is horrifying. They might give the appearance of being a perfect couple, but they’re far from it. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but you immediately get the impression that things aren’t what they seem right from the very beginning of the book.

I had to see where Behind Closed Doors was going, so I finished it all in one day. I’m so glad I did because where it went was twisted and creepy and darker than I’d imagined the secrets to be, and completely satisfying.

This is one of those books that will stick with me and it would make for a fascinating book club discussion.

You can join in SheSpeaks’ #BehindClosedDoors Twitter Party on August 9 at 2pm ET for your chance to win Behind Closed Doors prize packs and chat with the author & other book lovers about summer reading and the book of course! Participants must RSVP to be eligible to win. RSVP here
